WHY SUPPORT FRIENDS OF RESIDENTS IN LONG-TERM CARE?
Your tax-deductible contribution to FOR allows us to advocate for and support the vulnerable elders and people with disabilities who receive long-term care in our state.
Your gift will allow us to develop new trainings, provide enhanced outreach programs, have a stronger voice in the legislature, mentor students interested in the field of long-term care, and promote positive change for residents in nursing homes, adult care homes, independent living centers, and continuing care retirement communities.
In 2024, with the support of our donors, we were able to:
Support residents in long-term care who were impacted by Hurricane Helene through advocacy and by sending over 500 holiday cards to residents. Thank you to Land of Sky Regional Council for helping coordinate the card distribution!
Assist over forty family members and residents with needs throughout the year.
Host our annual Fall Gala with keynote speaker Teepa Snow. We also presented two awards at our event; the 2024 Facility Best Practice Award was given to The Bridges of Hendricks Creek and the 2024 Sharon Wilder Long-Term Care Advocacy Award was given to national advocate Irma Rapport.
Submit public comments on assisted living disaster planning to the North Carolina Division of Health Services Regulation.
Assist the North Carolina Attorney General's office in creating a new resource card and website aimed at helping individuals with long-term care needs.
Advocate with members of the North Carolina General Assembly on our 2024 Public Policy Priorities.
Advocate with members of Congress and the U.S. Senate to co-sponsor the Essential Caregivers Act. Because of this advocacy, 6 members of Congress and one U.S. Senator from North Carolina have co-sponsored this important legislation.
Speak at a national Long-Term Care Insurance Summit and brought voices of residents and families to the conversation of how nursing homes will survive turbulent times.
Speak at the North Carolina Institute on Medicine's Annual Meeting on Innovations in Funding and Financing Long-Term Services and Supports.
Meet with state leaders such as the Deputy Director for the Division of Aging and introduced FOR's top policy priorities.
Help create and finalize the state's All Ages, All Stages Multi Sector Plan on Aging which was released in September 2024 and prioritizes long-term care services and supports as part of the plan.
