WHY SUPPORT FRIENDS OF RESIDENTS IN LONG-TERM CARE?
Your tax-deductible contribution to FOR allows us to advocate for and support the vulnerable elders and people with disabilities who receive long-term care in our state.
Your gift will allow us to develop new trainings, provide enhanced outreach programs, have a stronger voice in the legislature, mentor students interested in the field of long-term care, and promote positive change for residents in nursing homes, adult care homes, independent living centers, and continuing care retirement communities.
In 2023, with the support of our donors, we were able to:
Successfully advocate for the passage of legislation to increase the Personal Needs Allowance from $30 to $70 a month for nursing home residents.
Respond to over 60 family members and residents who called our hotline or emailed us.
Host twelve Public Policy Committee meetings focused on advocacy on behalf of long term care residents.
Host a hybrid event with Ernie Tosh, nursing home fraud and abuse expert, to train us on identifying fraud. While our event was not recorded, you can find a similar recorded webinar here!
Participate in coalition meetings on a monthly and quarterly basis and brought the voices of long term care residents to the table.
Present at several conferences and coalition meetings on the work of our organization.
Host a successful Fall Gala with special guest Lori Smetanka from the National Consumer Voice. We also presented three awards at our event; the 2023 Long-Term Care Facility Best Practice Award, the 2023 Legislator of the Year Award, and the 2023 Sharon Wilder Long-Term Care Advocacy Award.
Meet with state leaders at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, NC Medicaid, the Attorney General's office, and others to discuss our public policy priorities.
